Festival of Quilts - NEC,Birmingham

Had a lovely day at the Festival of Quilts with my friend Sue Chisnall-Sumner. We had a good spend and enjoyed looking at all the quilts on exhibition.
Bought some marbling supplies between us, so we will be having a playday with these soon and will post photos of our marblings.
Here are some photos I took of quilts and 3d items in the exhibition.

Birthday Girl

It was my birthday last Saturday and I had a lovely day at Preston Lace Makers group.
I have been a member for about 18 months and really enjoy going to meetings as I never fail to learn some new skill.
This month I was shown how to make a Japanese Ring Thimble by a nice lady called Felicity who heard me say to Pauline another member that I was sorry to have missed the workshop in June when members where shown how to make them.
Here is my finished thimble – it looks mega larger than it is as I took a close up of the ring to show the pattern.

I have started on a second one and will post a picture when it’s finished……………………..

Spirit of Place continued

As you know I am a member of Natural Progression Textile Group and our exhibition “Spirit of Place” is to continue at Alston Hall until 30th August 2014

There was a write up about our exhibition in the Lancashire Evening Post last night – I was unable to go to Alston Hall for the photo shoot – and it looks really good. A full page with a good write up and photos of some of our members and their pieces of work. Well done to Sue Chisnall-Sumner for getting us this attention.

We are also very pleased that our group have been accepted by the Museum of Lancashire to exhibit in 2016 which I will let you know more about when we have exact dates etc.

EG Summer School –Alston Hall

I had another enjoyable time this year at the Embroiderer’s Guild North West summer school which was held as usual at Alston Hall.

The tutor was Elizabeth Cousins-Scott and she started us off doing small sketches in the garden which we then used as our inspiration for mono printing and making a printing block for block prints.

Here are some photos of my work – the sketch I used was of the branches in the trees which was quite abstract looking and I’m not sure if I like the motif but I enjoyed doing the printing

I went for a bit of fresh air in the garden and here’s what I spotted – magical
