EG Summer School –Alston Hall

I had another enjoyable time this year at the Embroiderer’s Guild North West summer school which was held as usual at Alston Hall.

The tutor was Elizabeth Cousins-Scott and she started us off doing small sketches in the garden which we then used as our inspiration for mono printing and making a printing block for block prints.

Here are some photos of my work – the sketch I used was of the branches in the trees which was quite abstract looking and I’m not sure if I like the motif but I enjoyed doing the printing

I went for a bit of fresh air in the garden and here’s what I spotted – magical

Ducks on the fence

I saw this the other day in my next door neighbours garden and couldn't resist taking some photos as it looked so funny!!

Not sure what the middle one was checking with me? Probably wondering why I was taking a photo?

Easter Basket

A couple of weeks ago I went on a one day mixed media course at Alston Hall college. The course tutor was Priscilla Jones who does some lovely work. She makes 3d sculptures using wire and paper/fabric and wax mainly teacups/saucers and spoons.

I thought I would try making a teacup but me being heavy handed it ended up looking more like a mug - so I added a handle and changed it into a basket and one of the ladies on the course said that because of the colours I had used, it could be an easter basket. So here it is....

Just need to fill it with choccy easter eggs ....yummy.

Felted wall hanging

I recently attended a felting workshop tutored by Janet Philips from The Threshing Barn, Farfield Mill and I produced a felted landscape using the resist felt method of construction. It just needs some stitch adding to it.
